The rock temples of Abu Simbel are among the greatest.
Monuments of ancient Egypt. These temples of Pharaoh Ramses II and his wife Nefertari, built in the 13th century BC, are located about 280 km south of Aswan. Thanks to international cooperation, these unique temples were salvaged from the rising waters of Lake Nasser behind the High Dam in a nearly 20-year operation.
